2012 Mar 1

Katie Franzmann, a junior from Tomball, Texas, was among a group of 27 new members inducted into the University of Dallas chapter of Beta Beta Beta, a national honor society founded in 1922 to promote scholarship in the biological sciences and dissemination of biological knowledge and to encourage research in biology. The University is home to the organization's Epsilon Tau chapter, which was installed in spring 2011.

"Beta Beta Beta continues a long tradition of excellence in science at the University of Dallas, and further encourages our students to become even more engaged in biology through in-class work, internships and research," said Associate Professor of Biology and Department Chair Marcy Brown Marsden, who is also the chapter's advisor.

Approximately 80 percent of University of Dallas biology students participate in an internship or research during their academic careers. Upon graduation, the acceptance rate of these students to medical school is approximately 85 percent, while more than 90 percent are accepted to graduate school.
