Farrell, Prefect of the Vatican Dicastery for Laity, the Family and Life, as the university celebrates the opening of its new "front door" at the ribbon cutting ceremony on Friday, Feb 2, 2018. The building is named in honor of Cardinal Farrell, former bishop of the Diocese of Dallas.

WHO: Cardinal Kevin J. Farrell; Bishop Brian Farrell, Secretary for the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity; current Bishop of the Diocese of Dallas Edward J. Burns; and the University of Dallas community, including administrators, trustees, faculty and students.

WHAT: Cardinal Farrell Hall Ribbon Cutting Ceremony & Open House

WHEN: Friday, Feb. 2, 2018, at 3:30 p.m.

WHERE: 1845 E. Northgate Dr., Irving, Texas; between the Braniff Memorial Tower and Cardinal Farrell Hall

HIGHLIGHTS: The University of Dallas officially broke ground on Cardinal Farrell Hall in August 2016. The three-story, 38,409-square-foot building is constructed primarily of brick, zinc panels and glass, and complements the architectural style of the university's existing buildings and landscape, many of which were designed by the late "father of Southwest architecture" O'Neil Ford.

Cardinal Farrell served as chancellor of the university until his departure for the Vatican in 2016, and on Saturday, Feb. 3, 2018, he will accept the 36th Catholic Foundation Award for his tremendous impact on the local Catholic community during his time as the seventh bishop of the Diocese of Dallas. An ardent supporter of the University of Dallas, Cardinal Farrell has played a significant role in the recent growth and revitalization of North Texas' only Catholic university.

An open house will immediately follow the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

University administrators, faculty and students will be available to speak with members of the media. Arrangements may be made in advance by contacting the University of Dallas Marketing & Communications Department at 972-721-5143 or aclaycomb@udallas.edu.
