UDallas Business Students Awarded Competitive Scholarships at Texas Business Hall of Fame

Three business students enrolled in the Satish & Yasmin Gupta College of Business at the University of Dallas were recently awarded scholarships for their entrepreneurial spirit and outstanding leadership during the 37th annual Texas Business Hall of Fame (TBHF) on Wednesday, Oct. 16, in San Antonio, Texas. The students were among 36 awardees from across the state to be honored with the TBHF's Future Legends Scholarship. The TBHF awarded each a $15,000 competitive scholarship endowed by The Mitchell Family Foundation.

UDallas Junior Receives Inaugural Lendvay Award for Best Short Story

University of Dallas junior Jasmine Adams recently received the English Department's inaugural Lendvay Short Story Award, on Thursday, Oct. 10, named in honor of the late Marilyn Lendvay, BA '70 MA '76, who taught English and tutored students in writing for 17 years at Eastfield College, a part the Dallas County Community College District.

SCAC Names UDallas Student-Athletes to 2018 Fall Academic Honor Roll

More than 50 University of Dallas student-athletes were recently named to the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) 2018 fall semester Academic Honor Roll, ranking the university with the third most student-athletes to receive the distinction among 378 total recipients from nine SCAC conference institutions. In order to qualify, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum GPA of 3.25 for the academic semester and serve as a regular member of a conference-sponsored varsity athletic team.

UDallas Track and Field Programs Earn All-Academic Team Honors

The University of Dallas Track and Field Programs recently garnered All-Academic Team honors for the 2017-18 NCAA Division III seasons by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). Among nearly 300 teams honored, the University of Dallas men's team boasted a cumulative team GPA of 3.17 and the women's team 3.12.

UD Senior Wins National Speaking Scholarship

University of Dallas rising senior Ashley Hinojosa was recently named a recipient of the National Speakers Association 2018 Bill Gove Scholarship Award. NSA awards six scholarship grants each year to eligible juniors, seniors and graduate students who wish to be pioneers in the public speaking industry. The association has awarded more than $350,000 to students since the program's inception in 1989.

Trae Hampton Named UD Scholar-Athlete for Third Straight Year

University of Dallas men's soccer player Trae Hampton was recently named the university's Scholar-Athlete of the Year for the third straight academic year. Hampton is the third student-athlete since the award's inception in 1984 to receive the accolade all three eligible years. The Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award is given annually to the letter-winning varsity student-athlete with the highest cumulative GPA.

UDallas English Majors Accepted to National Sigma Tau Delta Convention

Seventeen University of Dallas English majors recently had published papers accepted into the 2018 convention for the international English honor society Sigma Tau Delta. The university's honor chapter, Alpha Sigma Pi, initiated in 2011, organizes various events on campus, such as senior-junior mixers and poetry and literature celebrations. The society offers numerous benefits to its members, including scholarships, internships and publishing opportunities.

UDallas Students Elected to Student Government Executive Council

Four University of Dallas students were recently elected to the Student Government Executive Council for the upcoming 2018-19 academic year. Campus-wide voting was held March 22-23, and winners were announced on March 23 through Crusader Connect, the university's online portal for student clubs and organizations. The Executive Council is responsible for setting the Student Government's annual goals and overseeing the Senate and other various boards and committees, including the Campus Activities Board (CAB). Council members are elected for a one-year term, which commences on the last day of the 2018 spring semester.

UDallas Opus Dei Members Volunteer in Mexico

Sixteen University of Dallas Opus Dei members recently returned from Monterrey, Mexico, after completing a week-long service project for a local school, Ciudad de los Ninos, which provides nearly 1,000 children of low-income families with an education of high academic standards along with a well-rounded Christian formation. The spring break service project was sponsored by the Wingren Study Center, an Opus Dei center that hosts speaker series, service opportunities, meditations and mentoring to male students from the University of Dallas and surrounding colleges in North Texas.

UDallas Freshman Named National Rookie of the Year

University of Dallas freshman forward Spencer Levi was recently named National Rookie of the Year by D3hoops.com (National Collegiate Athletic Association Division III). This is the 21st year the organization has selected and published its annual All-American Team. The announcement came in Salem, Virginia, as part of the pregame show for the 2018 men's basketball National Championship. Levi placed on the second All-American Team and earned his accolade, Rookie of the Year, for the South Region.

University of Dallas senior Margaret Schuhrieman was recently awarded the Ropke-Wojtyla Fellowship from the Catholic University of America's Busch School of Business and Economics. The Ropke-Wojtyla Fellowship educates future Catholic intellectuals and business leaders in the moral and economic defense of the free enterprise system as instructed by Catholic social thought.

UDallas Campus Ministry 'Mercy Crew' Volunteers at Habitat for Humanity ReStore

Six University of Dallas Campus Ministry students recently volunteered at Habit for Humanity ReStore, a nonprofit home-improvement store and donation center that sells new and gently used furniture, appliances, home accessories and building materials. The university's Office of Campus Ministry sends groups of students, known as the "Mercy Crew," to participate in several community service outings each semester.
